Goldie & Cornelius

* SPONSORSHIP COMPLETE! *

While they weren't rescued together, they were destined for each other...

Both had a similar story, found injured as babies. Unfortunately an injured baby chicken is considered damaged goods, and standard practice would be to leave them for dead. Luckily for them, they were brought in by the kind folks at Green Acres, nursed back to health, and given a forever home.

Cornelius is gigantic. In the industry he's what they call a "broiler," raised for meat. They're bred to grow insanely fast, up to 4 or 5 pounds in only 6 weeks, and of course, sent to slaughter shortly thereafter. In his sanctuary home, however, Cornelius could live for many years, so he needs to be separated from others, and fed a special diet that won't make him bigger than his bones can support. Petite little Goldie, on the other hand, is a "layer" — raised for eggs. She wasn't bred to grow so big, and could easily be integrated with the larger flock. But she just took a liking to Cornelius, and decided to hang out with him instead! Unaware of their common beginnings, and probably of just how lucky they got, they ended up as inseparable friends, perfect company for one another.

With your help, we're going to sponsor their entire lifetime food costs, to ensure that they’ll spend the rest of their days safe and loved — and with full bellies.
